I use BobsTerm Pro 128, too, and I love it. I have some suggestions. Follow
this sequence to set up Xmodem defaults: RUN/STOP for the menu. P for
parameters. X for Xfer params. Cursor down to the Xmodem line and set CRC to
CCITT. Then go back and save the current parameters to your boot disk. Don't
**ever** use the original BobsTerm disk. Use a complete backup program (all
tracks and sectors) to copy BobsTerm to a blank disk. That's your boot disk.
To run the program, type BOOT or turn on your 128 with the disk in the drive
(and the dongle in the modem port).
You should be able to download BIN files without any problems. Type DOW to
download. Pick option 1 (Xmodem), then CompuServe will tell you to "initiate
the download". At that time, press C=X. Hold down the Commodore key (C=) and
press X. Receive to disk or buffer (from the menu), X for Xmodem. Just follow
the menus.
If the CompuServe file ends with .IMG, download to the buffer. When the
buffer is full and the download is done, RUN/STOP to the menu. D for Display
Buffer. E for Edit Buffer. Then erase/delete the first six characters from
the buffer. Then save the buffer to disk.

P.S. I just reread this message and I said the dongle goes in the modem
port. It fits the joystick port, of course. Sorry.

Hi :-)
I know this must be a very often asked question, but I have just spent 55
minutes online and have found no definitive answers to my questions. Here
goes...
1) I use BTPro128... HOW DO I DOWNLOAD?!?!
2) Do I use Xmodem for everything?
3) Do I need to use buffer capture methods??
4) When I've finished, are IMG files ready to go?
5) Are BIN files ready to go???
6) How come there is no EASILY located, CLEARLY marked
file with this info in it?? I'm a little disappointed with Compuserve
so far. After this much time online on other services I'd have downloaded a
lot of stuff and not spent time and money SEARCHING... SEARCHING... and still
not finding the answer.

Wilfred:
I also use BobsTerm Pro 128. Great terminal program. Here are the answers
to your questions:
1) To download, go to the DL area (type DL or pick it from the menu). BRO
until you find a file you want. Or BRO the file if you know the name
(wildcards * and ? can be used). Or BRO/KEY if you're looking for a specific
type of file. At the action prompt, type DOW to download. Pick Xmodem from
the list. When you get the prompt to "initiate download," press C=X (C=
Commodore key plus X at the same time). Download to buffer or to disk. Xmodem
(always Xmodem). SEQ or PRG, depending on the file (PRG if it's a program).
Follow the menus. Between the time CompuServe says "initiate download" and the
time you work through the menus to actually start, you have 100 seconds. A
minute and a half is lots of time.
2) Yes. Use Xmodem always.
3) No. Don't use the capture buffer. (It's OK to download to the buffer,
however. Just don't open the buffer when you want to download.)
4) Compuserve IMG files have a six byte header that you have to remove.
Download to the buffer. When it's done, hit RUN/STOP for the main menu. D for
Dump. E for Edit. Now, very carefully, erase the first six characters from
the buffer. Then save the buffer to disk as a PRG file (or SEQ if it's
sequential).
5) BIN files you can download directly to disk (or to buffer, if you
prefer).
6) There are quite a few help files available. Look in DL1.
One more note: Some files are crunched with a program called ARC (archive).
To use these files, you have to uncrunch them. Also, there are quite a few
music files in Sidplayer format. To hear them, you need the Sidplayer program.
Some of the graphics files are in Doodle or Koala format. To view the
pictures, you need the appropriate graphics program (a hi-res viewer program).
If you have questions, type RE to reply to this message. RA to Read Again.
